Gambling to be bannedThe Chinese authorities have made it clear that they will not tolerate any football gambling during the World Cup. They have also broken up what is said to be the biggest gambling ring in Hong Kong. This warning had better be taken seriously because they are determined to enforce their laws regardless of the cheer that people are feeling on the World Cup Scene. They have promised a severe crackdown and it would be a very foolish person indeed who did not take heed of their warning. They have been known to follow through with any actions agreed. According to the news release, the anti gambling section of the national police force will monitor the internet for any betting during the event. The whole operation will be managed by the Ministry of Public Security. This has been something of a joint campaign that involved Hong Kong authorities as well as the Shenzhen police. Eventually they managed to arrest seventy suspects in the case. It is said that the lucrative deal had about one hundred million in bets. Despite the obvious dangers of gambling in a state that bans the practice, the gambling circuit has been steadily growing. There is nearly one hundred and fifty billion dollars that is tied up in underground gambling units. The practice was outlawed in mainland China and the penalties can be severe if caught. However it is still legal in Macau so the Chinese residents normally sneak out to have a go on the game. China did not qualify for the World Cup but this has not stopped people from gambling with the game in tow. It seems like one of those cases that is a losing battle right from the beginning. The public has the appetite for sports gambling and no amount of cajoling is going to take them off course with their pastime. At the same time the Chinese authorities are determined to crack down on any groups that fail to follow the law. In the event we can see what happens to the gambling world.
